Dans une analyse politique pour l’Association d’études sur la communauté européenne-Canada, le doctorant Johannes Müller Gómez et sa collègue Frauke Ohler (Université Catholique de Louvain) se sont penchés sur les enjeux liés aux crises environnementales et de la COVID-19. Pour y répondre, ils présentent quatre recommandations politiques mettant en avant le rôle important de l’Union européenne, influence internationale et régionale dans la résolution des enjeux environnementaux.
EXTRAIT : The COVID-19 crisis has the potential to set back the international commitment to environmental protection and to climate change mitigation by several years. We argue that the challenges caused by the global pandemic result from a twofold problem. First, postponing international meetings and multilateral negotiations can cause an important loss of momentum for enhanced commitments to environmental protection and climate change mitigation by the EU and other parties. Second, the current developments have led to priorities shifting from an ambitious environmental programme to concerns about economic recovery.
