Mediatization of Politics: Reshaping Politics and Transforming Democracies.
Conférence présentée par le Centre pour l'étude de la citoyenneté démocratique (CÉCD).
During the last decades, advanced democracies around the world has transformed due to several large-scale social change processes such as globalization, individualization and mediatization. Less discussed than globalization and individualization, but equally important, the mediatization of politics refers to a long-term process through which the importance of the media and their spill-over effects on political processes, institutions, organizations and actors have increased. This talk will discuss the concept and the mechanisms of the mediatization of politics, analyze the different dimensions of mediatization, and outline how mediatization is reshaping politics and transforming democracies. It will also discuss whether the increasing importance of digital media might change the dynamics of mediatization.
La conférence sera suivie d'une réception.
